Reading/Writing Contest

I had this idea. What if each month the Various Unknowns held a reading/writing contest? It can be either who reads the most in one month, or writes a fantastic short story? The prize would be a new rank, like a moderator. It doesn't have to be an administrator. By the time we get as many as 100 members, we can close the contest. To me, it seems like an idea to draw people who love to read and write in. Also, we'd have more responsible members.

It seems like good idea, but right now...Let's see. A lot of the members have gone inactive, and Lightbulb, Mira, and I are already Staff...I like the idea, and hope it can work. I guess it's worth a try. We'll start in October!

We don't have that many members though. Only 3 people are on nearly every day, or 2 days...you, Lighty, and now me (like I said I can go on everyday for 2 hours so...). So how about email everybody?

I can do that. I'm going to make a banner to put as my sig for an ad on other forums. I'll send the e-mails!

I just remembered though--some people haven't been on for a while, like RoseCandle (Lighty told me). So they might've forgotten about the Various-Unknowns. It might or might not work.

Hmm, I like the idea except that the prize should be more of a personal rank. Not just to promote people to mods or admins...

^^ I agree. Otherwise we would have moderators galore. And even if we get 100 members, I think it would be great to keep it going. Closing it would be like having candy to attract all the little kids and then eating it all in front of their faces when they get there.

I have this brilliant idea. How about we do all the competitions when we do the thousandth party? It'll be two or more in one!

Same with me. If we could get every member on right now for the next party, it'll be a real good thing for this forum.

Okay, I know I'm double posting, but I was looking over Lighty's shoulder about an hour ago, and it was about this too. Apparently, November is the annual Writer's Contest. Instead of just doing it every November, can we do this every month? The actual contest is writing 175 pages or 50,000 words starting from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30. I think we should base it on that. To show that Nov. is the Writer's Month, we should post the winners during Nov.

I think we should hold a writing contest once we have more members, and hold it annually, not every month.

Every month would be somewhat hectic, and may rush some who take more time to write and/or are very busy. I myself and runnning low on time and it takes awhile for me to write something.

True, but can we at least have it every 6 months? It might be interesting to see how many people can finish in time. Or if we can't do that, how about we put it as every half year, there's some tips about how to write fast. I could help research some stuff up, and somebody can e-mail Mira to see if she can give tips as well.

I think six months would work, but how many people who actually come on write? The number of people is the problem.

True. To actually make this work, I think the forum needs to have more than 10+ writers.

I sometimes write something, but it usualy isn't longer than two A4 pages
And it's more like when I have to, like for school, otherwise I just don't feel like it
