South African Hip Hop Empty
PostSubject: South African Hip Hop   South African Hip Hop EmptyThu Jan 20, 2011 6:08 pm

Welcome to the home of South African Hip Hop music, this Hip Hop website covers South African Hip Hop news from Johannesburg, Durban and P.E. to Cape Town.

The South African music industry is still growing, Hip Hop is one of the genres that is still struggling to get there due to lack of support from media, corporate and the general public. As a form of street art, Hip Hop in USA, France, UK and South Africa has survived the storm through the years without major help from mainstream exposure.

Thanks to internet and technology we are seeing more and more south African Hip Hop artists coming out with albums, mixtapes and music videos without having a big budget or major recording deal... With the help of music software such as Reason, Fruity Loops and Cubase, we have seen an increase in bedroom studios with music producers and Rappers coming onto the Hip Hop scene from all over South Africa, not just the big cities. True to the spirit of diversity for which South Africa is becoming so well known, we are also seeing many artists producing work in the vernacular and not only English. This is building the local Hip Hop scene in a big way and has given rise to new types of Hip Hop such as:

Spaza - Hip Hop in Xhosa, mainly from the township areas.

Motswako - Hip Hop in Tswana mixed with English.

Skandi hop = Hip Hop sampling traditional music from mainly Zulu artists.

Yes South Africa's got talent! There is always something going in the South African Hip Hop world, whether it's a gig,a session, cypher or a workshop, the movement is alive, Hip Hop is not dead here..

Our vision is to raise the standard of South African Hip Hop by creating a platform that MCs, Poets, Soul singers and Hip Hop producers can use to showcase their talents and so continue to build the Hip Hop culture.

All the latest South African Hip Hop news is posted on this site, from CD releases, free download tracks to music videos, gigs and more..

HeavyWords.co.za is all about South African Hip Hop, take a walk with us, browse through and enjoy the journey..

Welcome home!
