Let's talk about ~MANGA~

Lots of people have recommended it to me, but just what is it about? I don't mind most anime, but there are some anime that are WAY too feminine for me. I'm too involved with some anime right now to look it up.

I don't know the entire story of Fruits Basket but I know most of what's it about. If you didn't read it yet, you gotta read it!!

Okay, well, I'm not good at explaining stuff so I'll try the best I can from my memory...

The main character is Tohru Honda. She was living with her mother, but then her mother died in a car accident. So Tohru lived with her grandpa for a bit, but then he had to live with another relative. So Tohru said that she'll live with a friend until renovations on the house were finished. Tohru is pretty much selfless. Her two best friends, Uo and Hana (a Yankee and a goth) doesn't even know that Tohru's mother died. Tohru doesn't live with Uo or Hana, but instead lives in a tent.

Oh yeah, you have to know that at Tohru's school, the most popular guy there is Yuki Sohma. (I think that's how you spell his name) But he's mysterious, nice, good at sports and is smart. All the girls love him.

So Tohru goes to her tent and Yuki and his cousin(Shigure) were walking home. They saw Tohru going into the tent and invited her to stay at there house. She lives with them peacefully, but when another of Yuki's cousin comes down from the roof, she learns their biggest secret. The Sohma family is cursed so that whenever they are in a great deal of stress, or is hugged by the opposite gender, they turned into one of the zodiac animals plus the cat. Yuki is a rat, Shigure is a dog, and Kyo is the cat. (There are more, but I don't know them all)

So, yeah, Fruits Basket is a hilarious manga, I mean, I laughed throughout the ENTIRE thing. It's really really funny. But my explanation doesn't seem great...so I think if you go to Wikipedia, that's probably better...

Sound very weird. I'm done with my anime now, so I can look up more about it and possibly read/watch it.

Yeah, when I looked over what I typed, it's didn't really make any sense...But it's a really really funny manga, trust me.

Alright, STPID QUESTION ALERT!

How do you read these things?! I'm soooo confused. I grabbed Bleach because All of Death Note was gone and the first one of Bleach was there. But, it appears that it starts at the end of the book, am I right? You know, back cover first. And I want to know, do you read it left page first, or right page first ? And do you read it left to right, or right to left. I tried so many different combinations, my head hurt and I had to put it back. I suspect it's something really simple and stupid, but I can't figure out what. Gah, I'm stupid.

Yes, manga starts at the end of the book and its read from right to left -> first is right page. And this link shows how to read single page here

Yeah. The English book's last page is a manga's first. Don't feel stupid. Barely any of my friends like manga, and they are clueless.

Yep, same with my friends... (Actually I don't even think they know what a manga is in the first place...) So as Delea said, you start on the right side, reading right to left.

I just read a really good manga called Vampire Girl. It's a ridiculously shoujo-lame sounding name, but the storyline is anything but. If anyone's interested in it, head over the mangafox.com to check it out!

I absolutely love Fruits Basket! Oh yeah, Lighty, you forgot Akito, head of the Sohma family. He's the "God" of the zodiac. He's one creepy guy. And I remember watching Fruits Basket. They didn't show the Horse (who is jealous of everything including her own mother whom she murdered--and I forgot her name). I like Hotaru--the cow. He's a pretty good fighter when he goes "black".

Oh, I've heard of Vampire Girl before, but I haven't looked into it...

I remember now! Rin was the Horse in Fruits Basket. Oh yeah, I also like Coldlight (though it does have some inappropriate things in it) and Spiral (perfectly awesome!).

What about Spiral? That's also good.

When they talk in English it's weird, but when you hear them in Japanese with subtitles it sounds fine.

I actually don't like when anime is in English. I like them in Japanese with English subtitles. It sounds more natural.

Perfectly agreed. Spiral sounds especially weird. Fruits Basket too.

Hey, if you want to hear weird English dub, try Rurouni Kenshin. THAT's different from Japanese dub a LOT.

The Tsubasa Chronicles is especially weird. I love it now, since Lighty became obsessed...

I love the Tsubasa chronicles. I mean, like, it's weird, but I'm not totally obsessed at the same time.

*coughs* And you call me obsessed. I'm only on like, what? Episode 13?

I'm not reading any manga right now, but I'm trying to find Clannad to watch it...I can only find up to the fifth episode....

Actually, sweetiecow, I'm on episode 52. Anyway, it's pretty good.

I'm on Chapter 50 something in Fruits Basket.
